Blue Hens Continue Historic Season with 2-0 Defeat of Elon

NEWARK, Del. – The message all week long for the University of Delaware women's soccer team was "not done yet."
The Blue Hens have already put up some historic program records in 2019, but the group wanted more. They weren't satisfied.
On a cold Thursday night at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium, that desire was evident as Delaware dominated the field en route to a 2-0 defeat of Elon, in a battle of teams jockeying for seeding heading into the upcoming CAA Tournament.
Senior Dani Kabat and junior Gabby Johnson scored the goals for the Blue Hens, who picked up their 11thvictory of the season, tying the third-highest win total in a single season in program history.
Elon, which came into the game as the league's top offense, was limited to just 11 shots on the night, with sophomore Kamryn Stablein picking up three saves en route to the team's ninth shutout of the season.
The nine shutouts is the second most in a single season and Stablein is just the third Delaware keeper with eight or more shutouts in a season (Melissa Kulp – 1995, Sheena Hunter (13)).
What They Said
"The girls put in a lot of work leading up to this season and they've continued that all fall. If you look at the entire body of work for this group, it's something we're extremely proud of. There's a lot of motivation inside them to finish the regular season off on the right foot. I'm proud of them for their response tonight and their effort. We knew if we played our game and executed our game plan we would be able to compete for the win tonight and that's exactly what they were able to do," head coach Mike Barroqueiro
"There's an incredibly strong commitment to team defending from this group. It's something we talk about a lot and something we work a lot during our training. I think they've done a great job of understanding that every play matters and they aren't taking any plays for granted, no matter where it happens on the field," head coach Mike Barroqueiro
"We're a very hungry team and we want to finish the regular season strong. We're proud of the way we've play so far, but we want to do something that no team has ever done at Delaware. We felt good going into tonight and we were able to really execute our game plan and come out with a win," senior Dani Kabat
