Blue Hens Post Second Straight Shutout in 1-0 Win over Drexel
10/3/2019 9:30:00 PM | Women's Soccer
NEWARK, Del. – It was a dreary night at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium.
For the University of Delaware women's soccer team, it didn't matter what the weather was, the only thing the Blue Hens will remember is a 1-0 victory over CAA rival Drexel for a second consecutive shutout.
It's the sixth shutout of the season for Delaware, marking the most in a single-season since 2013. It's the first time since 2015 that the Blue Hens posted back-to-back shutouts in conference games.
Junior captain Olivia Schuck scored the game's lone goal, finding an open on a corner kick and heading Gabby Johnson's pass into the back of the net in the first half to put the Blue Hens ahead for good.
Delaware would control the game all night long, limiting the Dragons to just two shots on the evening.
What They Said
"Obviously, we're happy to get the result at home tonight. Drexel is a good team and one with a rich conference playoff tradition, so we knew it would be a stiff test. I'm proud of the girls for how we battled and to hold an opponent of that caliber to only two shots is indicative of how mature our group is right now. We can't wait to get back at it on Sunday." – Head Coach Mike Barroqueiro
"I'm really proud of our team tonight. This is a really competitive conference and to earn another win with a shutout is really special. We are truly learning how to win, even when everything might not go our way, and I'm really excited for Sunday to keep it rolling," – junior Olivia Schuck
"The goal we scored was truly a team effort, with Anna winning the corner kick, then Gabby playing a perfect ball and I tried to finish the job." – junior Olivia Schuck
