Delaware will look to bounce back tomorrow afternoon
NEWARK, Del. – The Delaware volleyball team dropped a three-set decision (12-25, 19-25, 21-25) Saturday night at the Carpenter Sports Building to CAA-favorite JMU.
Senior Maria Bellinger had a team-high 10 kills on the night and has had double-digit kills in all but two matches in her final season. The Paramus, New Jersey native also chipped in with three aces and four digs on the night.
The Dukes got off to a fast start and went on a 7-0 run in the first set to jump out to a 19-9 lead. The Blue Hens struggled to find a rhythm early, hitting in the negatives in the first set.
After dropping the first two sets, Delaware jumped out to a 5-1 advantage in the third when Bellinger had two of her three aces.
Freshmen Ayala Plummer and Lauryn Richardson got involved late in the match with Plummer adding eight kills and a block, while Richardson hit .364 with seven putaways.
Senior Cailey Bracken came off the bench to add a pair of kills and forced a JMU timeout in the third when she made it 8-3 with a big swing. From there, the Dukes managed to weather the set and eventually go on a 4-0 run late in the frame to take control.
Senior Andie Hanus had 16 digs in the match while freshman Ezgi Basaranlar helped out with 28 assists.
It's a quick turnaround for the Blue Hens, hitting the road to take on an undefeated CAA opponent in Towson Sunday at 1 p.m.
