PHILADELPHIA – The Delaware swimming & diving teams had a successful day in Philadelphia with the men earning their first victory of the season, defeating La Salle, and the women taking down both La Salle and Rider.
Â
"It was a fantastic day for our Blue Hens. Both teams competed very well today," said head coach Pablo Marmolejo. "The men had a very close and tough meet against La Salle and were able to pull out the win in the final few events. Their hard work and perseverance really paid off today."
Â
The women were led by four victories from freshman Mira Selling who was part of the 200 yard medley relay and took home the 200 yard freestyle, 100 yard freestyle and 500 yard freestyle in her collegiate debut.
Â
Sophomore Taylor Draganosky was part of the first-place 200 yard medley relay win and individually took home the 100 yard breaststroke and the 200 yard breaststroke. Freshman Natalie Dobrzykowski was first to the wall in the 100 yard backstroke and 200 yard backstroke, while leading the first-place 400 yard freestyle relay and anchoring the 200 yard medley relay.
Â
Senior Ellie Jogani was first to the wall in the 50 yard freestyle and as part of the 400 yard freestyle relay squad with freshman Marietta Gately. Gately also took home the 200 yard IM.
Â
Sophomore Jessica Antonio was a third-place finisher in the 1-meter dive to round out a successful day.
Â
"Our divers had a great showing as well and Coach Ryan (Hunt) is doing a fantastic job with them," Marmolejo added.
Â
The men's diving side also had a third place finisher in freshman Doug Vaca with a strong performance in the 3-meter dive.
Â
In the water, senior Kevin Basch led the way with a pair of wins in the 500 yard freestyle with a season-best time of 4:27.27 and the 1000 yard free.
Â
Junior Kevin Bargate was first to the wall in the 200 yard butterfly and had a second-place finish in the 100 yard butterfly.
Â
"This was a great meet as preparation for our midseason invitational in Cleveland in two weeks," Marmolejo said. "We are looking forward to great swimming there."
Â
The Blue Hens are back in the pool Nov. 22-24 for the Magnus Cup hosted by Cleveland State which will be their final test of the calendar year.
