NEWARK, Del. – The future of Delaware football is bright.
Two of the cornerstones of that future were honored on Tuesday when HERO Sports announced the 2019 Freshman and Sophomore All-American teams. Delaware natives Will Knight and Kedrick Whitehead were both honored for their performances this fall.
Knight was named to a First Team Freshman All-American, while Whitehead was honored as part of the honorable mention Sophomore All-American team.
In his debut season for the Blue Hens, Knight was outstanding, rushing for 919 yards on 125 carries, good for 7.4 yards per carry, which ranked fourth in the country. His 919 total rushing yards ranked second in the CAA. He piled up eight total TDs, seven on the ground. He became just the second freshman ever in program history to reach 900+ rushing yards, joining only Andrew Pierce in 2010.
Whitehead led the defensive effort in tackles with 103, ranking first in the league among defensive backs in that category. He became just the 10th sophomore in program history and just the third DB to reach 100+ tackles in a season. He also had five pass breakups and one INT.
Both student-athletes are part of a core that returns over 90-percent of its all-purpose yards, 86-percent of its tackles and 70-percent of its scoring.
