ANNAPOLIS, Md. – One thing is for sure. There is no quit in this year's University of Delaware women's tennis roster.
The Blue Hens climbed back and fought to the very end, dropping a tough 4-3 defeat on the road at Navy on Sunday afternoon.
"Another absolute battle that we came up a few points short. I'm proud of the way these girls fought and showed guts and never gave up," head coach Kelly Anderson said. "These losses sting but we have to take encouragement that we are heading in the right direction. Doubles was again crucial and we need to go back to work to improve our execution. This is a group that fight till the death and I know we are going to be rewarded. Temple is a tough next opponent and we have another great opportunity in a couple weeks."
Navy took the doubles point and the first two singles points, but the Blue Hens would respond.
Viva Laas won a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 thriller at the top spot in the lineup and classmate Tayo Adetunji won 6-7 (7-4), 6-2, 6-1 at #5 to make it a 3-2 match.
The teams would split the final two singles matches to give Navy the match victory.
