"Young teams play really well at times, average at times and poorly at times. Today's game had a little bit of all of those options," he said.
In the finale of the three game-set, Delaware dropped a tough 16-8 contest against the Huskies of Northeastern.
"We've gotten better in some areas, you can see that each time we take the field. I think our offense is starting to gain some confidence and swing the bats better, but we've still got a lot of work to do," Sherman added.
Six different Blue Hens had hits and six different Blue Hens had RBIs in the contest. Jack Goan, Zack Miller and Vinny Vaccone led the way, each collecting two hits, a run scored and at least one RBI.
"The offense has been a bright spot and had a pretty good week for us. I thought Vinny, Jack and Zack all swung the bats and gave us pretty good at-bats today," Sherman said.
Seven different pitchers saw the mound with Joey Haas having the longest outing, with 2.1 innings of work, not allowing a hit or an earned run.
"We have to be more aggressive defensively and our guys have to be more aggressive strike throwers out of the bullpen for us. We'll get back to work and look to get back on track in the Liberty Bell on Tuesday before hosting William & Mary next weekend in our first night games at Bob Hannah," Sherman added.
Outside of a run in the third, it was all Northeastern early, as the Huskies ran out to a 11-1 advantage after six innings.
The Blue Hens wouldn't go quietly as a walk from Miller and a single by Austin Colmery set the table for three straight RBIs from Kevin Mohollen, Erik Bowren and Hutchins to make it 11-4.
A single from Joseph Carpenter was followed by an RBI single from Vaccone and a huge RBI double from Goan to get Delaware within four at 11-7. Miller would round out the seven-run inning with an RBI single of his own to make it 11-8.
Northeastern would respond in its half of the seventh, plating four unearned runs to extend the lead and ultimately put the game out of reach in the 16-8 final score.
