Brittney Mendoza Named CAA Softball Rookie of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – Delaware freshman second baseman Brittney Mendoza was named the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Rookie of the Week on Monday.
Mendoza (Chula Vista, Calif./Bonita Vista) batted .438 during the Blue Hens' five games last week, leading the team with seven hits, four runs scored and three doubles while ranking second with four RBI.
She went 3 for 3 with a double, triple, homer and two RBI in Wednesday's 6-1 victory over Saint Joseph's, before adding four hits during the weekend series win at Hofstra.
Mendoza had two hits including a double during the first game with the Pride on Saturday, and added an RBI single in the second game. She then delivered an RBI double and scored a run in Sunday's 4-3 win over Hofstra.
Mendoza has started all 31 games at second base this season for the Blue Hens, leading the squad with nine doubles and 22 RBI while tying for the team lead with 30 hits. Additionally she ranks second on UD with a .330 batting average and five home runs.
Mendoza is the third Blue Hen to earn CAA Rookie of the Week honors this season, along with Halle Kisamore and Brooke Glanden.
