LOUISVILLE, Ky. -Â University of Delaware softball had multiple players named to the National FastPitch Coaches Association East All-Region Team for the sixth consecutive season, as announced by the organization on Thursday, May 14, 2026. Senior Sydney Shaffer was a First Team selection, while sophomore Josie Crossman was a Third Team honoree.Â
Shaffer was named All-Region for the second time in her career and first as a catcher, as last season she was a First Team pick at designated player/utility. She becomes the first player in program history to be an All-Region First Team selection at catcher and the second player in program history to earn two First Team All-Region selections in a career, joining Emily Winburn, Hanna Garber, and Morgan Hess. She also becomes the third Delaware player to be an All-Region pick at two different positions during her career, joining Garber (outfield, third base) and Mariah Kondravy (first base, designated player/utility). Shaffer joins Anna Steinmetz (2016, 2018, 2019), Halle Kisamore (2022), and Mary Beth Cahalan (2025) as the only catchers in program history to be All-Region selections.
This season, Shaffer earned the third all-conference honor of her career and her second consecutive First Team selection. She hit .340/.498/.727 with 16 home runs, 45 RBIs, 43 walks, and 38 runs scored. She led Conference USA and set a Delaware program record for walks in a season. Among CUSA players, Shaffer also ranked second in total bases (109), third in on-base percentage and OPS (1.225), fourth in home runs and slugging percentage, and ninth in RBIs. Shaffer was also tied for third among CUSA players with 13 multi-RBI games and had 11 multi-walk games. Shaffer will finish her career as Delaware's all-time leader in on-base percentage (.483), slugging percentage (.675), OPS (1.158), and walks (121). She also ranks second in home runs (40), third in RBIs (147) and extra base hits (83), fourth in doubles (40) and total bases (349), sixth in game played (199) and runs scored (112), and ninth in hits (183). She also ends her career as part of Delaware's all-time winningest senior class with 137.Â
Crossman caps off her sophomore season with a Third Team All-Region honor. She becomes the eighth pitcher in program history to be named to an All-Region Team and the fourth sophomore or younger to be honored (Carolynn Sloat - 2004, Emily Winburn - 2021, Graceyn Frost - 2022). In her breakout season, Crossman went 14-9 with a 3.42 ERA in 145.1 innings and 38 appearances with eight complete games, three shutouts, two saves, 106 strikeouts, 50 walks, and a .258 BAA. Among CUSA pitchers, she ranked fifth in innings pitched, sixth in wins and strikeouts, seventh in shutouts and saves, and ninth in complete games. In conference play, she went 8-2 with a 2.96 ERA over 68.2 innings, recording four complete games, one shutout, two saves, 49 strikeouts, 26 walks, eight home runs allowed, and a .257 opponent batting average. Crossman's signature moment came on Feb. 20 against Maryland and Ohio State, when she pitched 10.2 innings across both games, including a shutout against the Buckeyes, allowing no runs, one hit, three walks, and 12 strikeouts at the Mizuno Classic. She closed the regular season by allowing two or fewer runs in seven consecutive starts.
Delaware has had multiple All-Region selections in six straight seasons dating back to 2021, after having multiple honorees in just four seasons prior. Crossman's selection also makes it six consecutive seasons with a pitcher named to an All-Region team. UD ended the season at 31-24 and 17-10 in conference play in its inaugural CUSA season. Delaware has won at least 30 games in three consecutive seasons for the first time in program history.
