Delaware Men's Basketball Set For Bahamas Tour

Delaware men's basketball will be taking a seven-day foreign tour to the Bahamas from August 5-11, where the Blue Hens will play three exhibition games in Nassau.
"It comes at a great time for our program, heading into year four with our group," head coach Martin Ingelsby said. "I'm excited to continue to learn about our team, for our guys to go and enjoy some nice weather, enjoy a beautiful resort, and play against some international competition."
Beyond the court, the trip to the Bahamas, and a week of practice in Newark, beforehand will provide an opportunity for the team to grow closer before the season starts.
"Also develop some chemistry, camaraderie, a bond that we'll continue to feed off of moving forward," Ingelsby added about the goal of the trip. "I really like our group. We've got an older group with a mixture of some young guys in there. But I do think this will be an important seven days of practice, and then seven days on our trip to really continue to learn about our group and come closer together."
The NCAA allows programs to take a foreign tour once every four academic years. This is especially helpful for transfers, who get the opportunity to play in a game setting with their teammates before the season starts. Due to NCAA transfer rules, this will be the first time Nate Darling, Justyn Mutts and Dylan Painter will get to play in game action for the Blue Hens.
"Those guys are chomping at the bit to get out there," Ingelsby said.
The Blue Hens had their best season in five years in 2018-19, winning 17 games and reaching the Colonial Athletic Association semifinals after a dramatic comeback win over William & Mary in the quarterfinals. This trip helps Delaware build on the momentum of a team that has improved its win total each of the last three seasons.
"We're using this trip as a learning experience. We might try some new things offensively, defensively…as much as I want to coach the team, I also want to learn from them a little bit," Ingelsby said. "Then it gives us an opportunity to come back after that, digest, regroup, talk as a staff, and put a plan in place when we get back to things in September."
The trip was made possible through the generous contributions of Blue Hens supporters.
"Our program would also like to thank all those who helped make our trip to the Bahamas possible," Ingelsby added. "We are extremely appreciative of their support and generosity and are very much looking forward to this experience for our team."
"We're all excited to have the opportunity to get to go down there and play against different opponents," redshirt senior Collin Goss said. "We believe we have a special team this year and that this is step one on our path to a great season."
