VILLANOVA, Pa. – The University of Delaware men's soccer team opened its 2019 season with a 5-0 loss to Villanova Friday afternoon at the Higgins Soccer Complex.

MacKinnon took a pass from Bradley and scored in the 52nd minute, while 14 minutes later Anthony Dragisics found the back of the net. The Wildcats scored their final goal in the 71st minute when Jack Gilliam tallied an unassisted goal.
UD goalkeeper Renan Thomazo made five saves in his Blue Hen debut, while Ryan Mertz paced the Delaware attack with three shots. The Blue Hens took seven shots for the game, and held a 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Head Coach Ian Hennessy:
"Congrats to Villanova on a deserved result today. It was tough road result in a transition period for us. I am confident this season will turn into period of real growth for the program and players as we look for success in the CAA. Our goal for this year is to return again to the conference playoffs and I have every confidence in this group of young men to achieve their target and build from our non-conference experiences."
