Bellinger and Mason each earn all-tournament team honors
NEWARK, Del. – The Delaware volleyball team put together a clean sweep on the second day of the Delaware Classic, taking down Binghamton in the afternoon and Coppin State Saturday night in the Bob Carpenter Center, each by 3-0 finals.
Â
"I'm really proud of our finish tonight," said head coach Sara Matthews. "We might not have played our best volleyball today, but we were still able to execute and close out matches."
Â
The Blue Hens were led by freshman Lani Mason in their first match of the afternoon as the freshman put together a nine-kill, 12-dig performance, hitting .316. Senior Maria Bellinger was efficient as well, going 8-2-17 in the three sets.
Â
"Bellinger was so great tonight," Matthews said. "Her production was off the charts for a three-set match and our bench was so great, providing energy and focus."
Â
Bellinger continued to impress in match two, recording the 22nd double-double of her career with 17 kills and 13 digs, hitting .351 and putting away two aces from the service line. Mason added another nine kills and nine digs in the finale and each earned all-tournament team honors.
Â
Freshman Ezgi Basaranlar put together impressive once again with 28 assists in the afternoon, followed by 35 to close out the tournament. Redshirt freshman Addie Rivera went 8-2-17 in the night match with a pair of blocks and junior Julia Hayes had a four-kill, four-block performance in the afternoon.
Â
The Blue Hens return to action when they travel to Baltimore for the UMBC Tournament, where they take on the host school Saturday after matching up with George Mason and Saint Francis Friday.
