Roberto Nieves Named CAA Men’s Golfer of the Week

RICHMOND, Va. – Blue Hen sophomore Roberto Nieves was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Golfer of the Week following his impressive performance at the season-opening Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate.
Nieves (Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus) carded a seven under par 70-70-69-209 on the par 72, 6,803-yard Kaluhyat Course at Turning State Casino Resort, tying for fourth place in the individual standings. His score is three shots from UD's three-round record of 206 set by Justin Martinson in 2005.
Nieves fired six birdies during his opening round at the tournament on Sunday, before adding five during his second round later that day. He again carded six birdies in the final round on Monday, including three in a four-hole stretch from the fifth through the eighth holes.
Delaware tied for third place out of 14 squads at the tournament with an 891 three-round total.
The Blue Hens are scheduled to return to the course on Sept. 8-10 at the Golfweek Program Challenge in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
