Blue Hens Drop Tough 1-0 Loss At Villanova

VILLANOVA, Pa. – One thing is for sure with the University of Delaware women's soccer program, they're going to be in every game.
Dating back to last year, the Blue Hens have held eight of their past nine opponents to one goal or less.
That was the case again on Thursday afternoon at Villanova, but this time the Wildcats' lone goal in the contest was enough to come away with the 1-0 win and give Delaware just its second loss of the year.
Villanova limited the Blue Hens to just two shots in the opening period, while finding the back of the net on their own side in the 14thminute.
Delaware flipped the switch in the second half, taking over possession and firing off nine shots.
In the final minute, junior Riley Dixon ripped a shot on target, but it was knocked down as Villanova held on for the 1-0 victory.
What They Said
"Today was a very good match between two good teams. I give Villanova a ton of credit. After a long trip to the west coast, they came out on fire today and I thought we were flat to start and it cost us. In the second half, we definitely got a hold of the game, but when you play good teams, you can't take a half off. For our group, not just this game, but how we respond over the next two days will be a great learning experience. Looking forward to getting back out there on Sunday." – Head Coach Mike Barroqueiro
