TOWSON, Md. – Winning on the road in conference is never easy and the University of Delaware men's basketball team was on the tough end of that statement on Saturday afternoon at SECU Arena.
Playing its third consecutive conference road game, the Blue Hens fell to the red-hot Tigers of Towson, 84-68.
Juniors Nate Darling, Ryan Allen and Dylan Painter all finished in double-figures with Darling leading the way with 16, while Allen finished with 15 and Painter with 11 in his first start as a Blue Hen.
Early offense from Painter and Darling helped the Blue Hens get out to a 14-13 lead over the first eight minutes of the contest.
That's when the game switched momentum with the Tigers putting together a 28-4 run that helped Towson head to halftime with a 44-22 advantage.
Allen would try to lead the second half charge for Delaware with 10 of his 15 points coming after halftime and the Blue Hens would get Towson's lead to 18 on several occasions, but would eventually finish off the 84-68 win.
What They Said
"Certainly, a disappointing afternoon in every facet and for everyone in our program. I give credit to Towson, they played fast, physical and confident early in the game. We have to get back to campus and regroup. We have to learn how to respond when teams get up in us and really challenge us." – Head Coach Martin Ingelsby
"I thought we got some good looks early that just didn't go down and then we just didn't defend well enough. They played fast, they played physical and we just didn't defend the way we're capable of." – Head Coach Martin Ingelsby
"We just can't let this happen. Winning on the road in conference is never easy, but we have to be more together and stay locked in when things don't go our way." – redshirt junior Nate Darling
