Klatzkin named 2019 Delaware Sportscaster of the Year

NEWARK, Del. – iHeartMedia and University of Delaware Athletics are proud to announce that "Voice of the Blue Hens" Scott Klatzkin has been named the 2019 Delaware Sportscaster of the Year by the National Sports Media Association (NSMA). It marks the fourth time he has won the honor, having previously been selected in 2009, 2012 and 2016.
"This is truly a deserving honor for Scott, who is such a valuable asset to not only our program, but the entire athletic department," Delaware head men's basketball coach Martin Ingelsby said. "He brings a tremendous amount of passion and hard work to his job and we're thrilled to have him as part of our Blue Hen family."
Klatzkin, Delaware '07, joins UD Athletics and Delaware Sports Hall of Famer, Bob Kelley (19x), and Delaware Sports Hall of Famer, Bill Pheiffer(5x), as the only radio broadcasters to win the award four or more times since it was first handed out in 1959.
In 2019 Klatzkin completed his eighth season as the play-by-play voice for Delaware Football and began his eighth season in the same role for Delaware Men's Basketball. The Newark, DE native also works as host of the Blue Hens Football and Basketball Coach's Shows. During this past football season, Klatzkin celebrated his 300th game as "Voice of the Blue Hens" when UD defeated Penn at Delaware Stadium.
"Scott's passion for his alma mater and the Blue Hens Football and Basketball programs shines through in every broadcast," said iHeartMedia Area President, Brit Goldstein. "His level of dedication, preparation and professionalism has continuously made us proud throughout his career."
Beyond his play-by-play broadcasts for the University of Delaware, he also served as emcee for the 2019 UD Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, Student-Athlete Graduate Celebration Ceremony and Football Signing Day event.
The Blue Hens radio broadcaster also added television work during the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons. Klatzkin provided television play-by-play for the CAA Basketball Game of the Week on the CBS Sports Digital Network, as well as the 2019 CAA Men's Basketball Tournament in Charleston, S.C. and the 2019 CAA Women's Basketball Championship Game in Newark, DE. Additional basketball play-by-play broadcasts have aired on NBC Sports Philadelphia, NBC Sports Washington and SportsNet New York.
For the 12th time in his career, The News Journal's Kevin Tresolini claimed Delaware Sportswriter of the Year honors. National Sportscaster of the Year Kevin Harlan of CBS Sports, Turner Sports, and Westwood One and National Sportswriter of the Year Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, along with Klatzkin, Tresolini and all of the other state winners will be honored at the 61st Annual NSMA Awards Weekend, June 27-29, 2020 in Winston-Salem, NC.
Klatzkin's award-winning work will continue on Thursday when the Blue Hens host William & Mary at the Bob Carpenter Center at 7 p.m., and can be heard on 94.7 WDSD-FM, iHeartRadio and FloSports.
