NEWARK, Del. – Junior guard Jasmine Dickey tied her career high with 31 points, including 23 in the fourth quarter, to lift Delaware women's basketball to a 93-88 win over St. John's Thursday afternoon inside the Bob Carpenter Center.
The Blue Hens improved to 3-0 on the season, their first 3-0 start since 2016-17, while the Red Storm fell to 2-2.
After an 85-79 win at Pittsburgh last Sunday, Delaware has now beaten an Atlantic Coast Conference and a Big East opponent in the same season for the first time since 2012-13, when senior Elena Delle Donne led the Blue Hens to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament.
Delaware's offense continued its rapid pace, scoring 85 or more points for the third straight game. The only other three-game stretch of 85+ points in program history was in January of 1981.
The Red Storm led by as much as 11 late in the 3rd quarter, but the Blue Hens closed the period on a 10-1 run to cut the lead to 59-57. Dickey scored the first 11 Delaware points of the 4th quarter, including a personal 6-0 run that started with a made jumper, a steal in the backcourt on the ensuing possession, and a fast break lay-up.
St. John's briefly retook the lead at 66-65 with 7:14 to go in the fourth quarter, but a 12-0 Delaware run capped by a 3-pointer and two made free throws from freshman guard Tyi Skinner gave the Blue Hens the lead for good. Skinner finished with a career-high 18 points on an efficient 6-of-8 shooting from the floor.
Redshirt junior forward Ty Battle recorded her second double-double in three games, racking up 19 points and 12 rebounds, both season highs. Battle scored the first seven Delaware points of the game, including taking a steal the length of the floor for a bucket to put the Blue Hens up 4-0 in the opening minute. Dickey, who notched her 2nd career 30-point game and 5th career game with 20+ points, was just one rebound shy of her 19th career double-double.
Delaware jumped out to a 19-13 lead after one quarter before the Red Storm battled back to tie the game at 36-36 at halftime. Redshirt junior forward Chyna Latimer boosted the Blue Hens with a season-high eight points in the first half.
The Blue Hens' next scheduled game is Sunday, Dec. 20 at George Washington.
