Wakeley Added to NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List

The Blue Hens’ closer listed as a top reliever in the country entering 2020

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its 16^th Annual Stopper of the Year Award watch list ahead of the 2020 season with senior right-hander Derek Wakeley as one of the seventy players named.

The NCBWA names the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball annually. The full watch list can be seen here.

Wakeley was a Preseason All-CAA Honrable Mention and put together a junior season that featured a 3.91 ERA, six saves, 46 strikeouts in 53.0 innings of work. He had a team-high 23 appearances with a pair of starts, working primarily as the Blue Hens' closer.

Delaware opens the 2020 season Friday night with a trip to Boca Raton, Florida to take on Florida Atlantic in a three-game weekend series. First pitch for the season opener is set for 6:30 p.m.
