The UC Irvine grad and USA Volleyball National Team member joins Matthews’ staff
NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware volleyball head coach Sara Matthews officially named two-time NCAA Division I National Champion Austin D'Amore the program's assistant coach for the 2020 season Thursday.
"We are thrilled to have Austin joining us," said the fourth-year head coach. "It was clear from the very first conversation we had that he was the perfect fit for our team, our program and this university."
"I am so excited to join the Blue Hen Family," D'Amore said. "The academic reputation of Delaware is supplemented by the growth within the athletic department and the volleyball program. The culture of UD Athletics is something athletic departments nationwide strive for."
Most recently, D'Amore was the graduate assistant at Texas Christian University where he was responsible for statistical analysis, recruiting, scouting and student-athlete wellness monitoring. In 2019, the Horned Frogs produced a pair of All-Big 12 selections.
Prior to TCU, he served as an assistant coach for the University of Texas, Arlington, serving as the program's recruiting coordinator.
D'Amore's playing career consisted of a pair of National Championships at UC Irvine in his senior season of 2012 and in 2009. He was also a member of USA Volleyball National Teams from 2006-2009 with the U19 and U21 squads.
His coaching stops also include stints at the University of Illinois, Roger Williams University and Springfield College. He also has spent time with youth programs with USA Volleyball, Texas Image Club, Laguna Beach Club and 949 Club.
"Austin has a great technical mind and his calm, deliberate and thoughtful personality make him a great compliment to our staff," Matthews added. "He has competed at a high level and knows what it takes to win. We are so excited to get him to campus!"
"This program has all the tools to once again rise to prominence within a fiercely competitive CAA," D'Amore said. "I want to thank Sara Matthews and Kim Lambert for an incredible opportunity and I am looking forward to building upon the foundation they've established in our continuous pursuit of excellence."
