NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware women's tennis head coach Kelly Anderson has announced that she will resign from her current role effective August 14, 2020.
"I greatly appreciate the opportunity I was given at Delaware over the past three years to coach some amazing student-athletes and people," Anderson said. "I have learned so much from them and from my colleagues in the department and will carry those lessons with me into the future. I wish all the Blue Hens good health and much success moving forward!"
Anderson recently completed her second season at the helm of the Blue Hens and holds a career record of 17-15 at Delaware.
UD was 6-4 overall and 1-1 in CAA action this past season before play was halted in early March due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In her first season, Anderson guided Delaware to 11 wins, the most for a UD women's tennis coach in her first year. She previously served as an assistant coach with the Hens during the 2017-18 season.
Current men's tennis head coach Pablo Montana will step into the interim role of Director of Tennis programs and oversee both the men's and women's teams for the 2020-21 athletic calendar.
"Kelly did a fantastic job bringing in great talent and she has definitely left the program in good shape. I am sad to see her leave, but I know she has great things in her future, and I wish her all the best," Montana remarked. "I am excited for this opportunity to lead both programs and it helps to have great assistant coaches like Darragh [Glavin] and Fons [Verberne]."
"We're incredibly grateful for Kelly's work with our student-athletes over the past three years. Her hard work and dedication to our program and the University helped lead us to success both on and off the court," Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student Services and Leadership Jenn Judy said. "We're excited to have Pablo step in and lead both of our tennis programs and can't wait to see them thrive in the future!"
Anderson steps down to attend Physician Assistant school at Idaho State University.
