Patten enrolls to finish his degree and share his baseball knowledge
NEWARK, Del. – The Delaware baseball program and head coach Jim Sherman have announced the return of Nick Patten as an undergrad assistant coach heading into the 2020-21 academic year.
Â
"We couldn't be happier to have Nick back in Newark and have him share his experiences with our young men," Sherman said. "His experience as a Blue Hen and a professional player will be a tremendous addition to our program and we are extremely excited to see Nick finish his degree."
Â
A 2017 CAA Champion, Patten was selected in the 28th round of the 2018 MLB Draft by Pittsburgh and spent the last two seasons playing in the Pirates organization as a first baseman.
Â
The Butler, Pennsylvania native was a three-time All-CAA selection, earning rookie honors, a first team and a third team in his three seasons.
Â
He is tied for sixth on the Delaware career home runs list with 35 big flies in his Blue Hen career. Patten hit .279 with 130 RBIs, including a .312 batting average as a sophomore and led the conference with 58 runs scored.
