The 1990-91 Delaware women's basketball team won 18 games, earned the East Coast Conference regular season title, and claimed its third consecutive ECC Tournament championship.
The Blue Hens, led by head coach Joyce Perry, entered the season facing a rebuild after losing three starters and a key reserve, and lost four of their first five games. However Delaware quickly responded by winning seven of the next eight contests, including a five-game winning streak over Lehigh, Drexel, Rider, Loyola and Central Connecticut.
After dropping three of the next four, the Blue Hens captured seven of their final 10 regular season games, featuring a pair of three-game winning streaks.
As the league's regular season champion, Delaware earned a bye into the tournament semifinals, where it defeated Drexel, 53-41. The Blue Hens turned in their best defensive effort of the season by holding the Dragons to 26 percent shooting, including just 19 percent in the second half. Jennifer Pritchard scored 12 points for UD, while Linda Cyborski, Molly Larkin and Merel Van Zanten each added 10 during the victory.
The Blue Hens then took on seventh-seeded Hofstra in the finals and pulled away for a 60-52 victory at the Towson Center to earn their third consecutive ECC Tournament title.
Jennifer Riley, the 1991 ECC Player of the Year, led the way with 14 points and earned the tournament's Most Valuable Player award. Bridget McCarthy and Larkin joined Riley on the All-Tournament Team.
Cyborski wrapped up a new NCAA Division I mark by hitting a pair of free throws, finishing the season with a then-record 93.7 (74 of 79) free throw percentage. Cyborski was also named the ECC scholar-athlete for women's basketball.
Delaware, which never trailed in the game, led 31-21 at the half before allowing the Dutchwomen to close within 53-49 with 3:29 to play. However Riley answered with consecutive field goals to end the Hofstra threat, before Cyborski hit her free throws and Jen Lapinski added a foul shot to close out Delaware's scoring.
Riley averaged team-highs of 16.8 points and 9.1 rebounds per game while Cyborski, an All-ECC second team selection, added 12.3 points per contest. Larkin was the third Blue Hen to average double figures at 10.4 points, while McCarthy paced the squad with 163 assists and 57 steals.
