Blue Hens Pull Away From Elon For Ninth Straight Win

Jasmine Dickey scores game-high 25 points; Chyna Latimer pours in career-high 16
ELON, N.C. – Delaware women's basketball extended its winning streak to nine games, pulling away from Elon for a 74-55 victory inside the Schar Center Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Hens (12-1, 9-0 Colonial Athletic Association) are off to their best 13-game start since 2011-12, and are undefeated in CAA play through nine games for the first time since 2012-13. The Phoenix fell to 6-5 and 2-3 in the conference with the loss.
Junior guard Jasmine Dickey registered her 10th 20-point game of the season, leading all scorers with 25, 17 of which came in the third quarter, where Delaware outscored Elon 24-7 and pulled away for good.
While Dickey sat out with foul trouble in the first half, redshirt junior guard/forward Chyna Latimer poured in 10 second-quarter points on her way to a career-high 16. Latimer knocked down six of her 11 field goal attempts, including 4-of-8 from three-point range.
Freshman guard Tyi Skinner joined Dickey and Latimer in double figures with 10 points, while junior guard Paris McBride dished a game-high seven assists.
Redshirt junior forward Ty Battle filled the stat sheet with a game-high 10 rebounds, seven points, a team-high four steals, a block and an assist. This is Battle's 11th straight game and 12th game this season with double-figure rebounds.
Jaylin Powell led the Phoenix with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting.
Elon held a 17-15 lead after a back-and-forth first quarter, but the Blue Hens outscored the Phoenix 43-18 over the middle two quarters to establish a commanding 58-35 lead. Delaware bridged the halves with a 19-2 run capped off by Skinner taking the ball the length of the court and draining a lay-up with a circus finish.
The Blue Hens had a stellar shooting night, connecting on 48.2% of their field goals (27-56) and 47.1% of their threes (8-17), and going a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line. This is the first time Delaware has made 100% of its free throws since it went 5-for-5 on Feb. 19, 2017 at Drexel.
Delaware was dominant on the boards, outrebounding Elon 37-22. The Blue Hens also collected 13 steals and scored 21 points of Phoenix turnovers.
The Hens go for their fifth straight sweep of a CAA series tomorrow, Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. from the Schar Center.
