Women’s Soccer Falls to College of Charleston, 1-0

NEWARK, Del. – The Delaware women's soccer team fell to visiting College of Charleston, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium.
"I think overall the performance was a really positive one from our team," said head coach Mike Barroqueiro. "I thought we played well and I think that's reflected when you look at the stat sheet. I'm pleased for the seniors and their ability to be able to celebrate with their families. With how COVID has effected senior days the past year and a half, two years, it's nice to have people hear and do this (senior day) in a nice way."
Both teams applied the pressure with neither team willing to let up on the gas. In the 78th minute, College of Charleston's Natalie Sgro kicked in the ball from close range off a pass from Olivia Freitas to score the game-winning goal.
Delaware (4-8-1, 1-2-1 CAA) finished with nine shots with three on goal. The Blue Hens led in corner kicks, 6-3.
College of Charleston had six shots with three on goal. The Cougars improve to 2-9-2, 1-3 CAA.
Prior to the start of the match, the Blue Hens honored 10 players for Senior Day - Kate Henesy, Jaimie McInroy, Damali Simon-Ponte, Joan Scheidt, Zoe Smith, Anna Diffendal, Lauren Krinsky, Sara D'Appolonia, Lizzie Weimer, and Olivia Schuck.
The Blue Hens return to the pitch next weekend when they play at Drexel on Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.
