Cross Country Finishes in Top-10 at FSU XC Invite/Pre-Nationals

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – With a trio of Blue Hens capturing top-50 finishes, the University of Delaware cross country team earned a top-10 finish at the Florida State XC Invite/Pre-Nationals Friday morning from Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, Fla.
Among 29 competitive institutions, the Blue Hens totaled 239 points to claim the eighth-place finish. Tennessee won the team title with 67 points, while Texas followed in second with 122 points and Florida State rounded out the top three with 152 points. Lady Volunteer sophomore Sydney Seymour earned the individual title with a time of 20:41.9.
"It was a solid day today and it was a big improvement from our last big competition at the Battle at Beantown," said head coach Ryan Waite. "We raced much smarter and reinforced the way we need to approach a meet."
Finishing in the top-30 among a field of 277 runners was Tina Capparell, who crossed the 6K finish line in a personal-best time of 21:37.1 to capture 23rd place. Following Capparell was Susanna Weir, who claimed 35th place with a time of 21:56.5. Hannah Lindgren was the next Blue Hen to finish the race in 21:57.1, good enough for 41st place. Rounding out Delaware's scoring five with career-best times were Kate Rathman (104th, 22:55.2) and Devon Hoernlein (115th, 23:03.4).
Also racing for the Blue & Gold were Jessica Pidgeon (23:18.5) and Julien Webster (24:22.5).
Waite added, "I feel like we're in a good place to have a competitive showing at the conference meet."
WHAT'S NEXT
The Blue Hens will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 30, in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championships, hosted by Northeastern University from Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. The women's race is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
