NEWARK, Del. – The Delaware baseball team opens its season with a pair of trips to Florida and is slated to play 30 games at Bob Hannah Stadium as the Blue Hens announced their 2022 schedule on Friday.
Delaware, led by 22nd-year head coach Jim Sherman, kicks off its season with three games at the Stetson on Feb. 18-20., facing the host Hatters along with Manhattan and Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish won the NCAA Regional they hosted in the spring before advancing to the Super Regionals. The Blue Hens head back to the Sunshine State the following weekend to face Florida Atlantic, which participated in the 2019 NCAA Tournament, on Feb. 25-27.
"We have put together a very competitive schedule this year with early trips to Stetson and Florida Atlantic," Sherman said. "Our three games at Stetson will be very challenging, as well as our three-game series at Florida Atlantic."
Following a road game at Maryland on Mar. 1, UD opens a 14-game homestand on Mar. 4-6 when the Blue Hens welcome Rider to Hannah Stadium. Delaware also hosts Delaware State (Mar. 8), Iona (Mar. 11-13), Maryland (Mar. 15) and Monmouth (Mar. 18-20) before closing the homestand against James Madison (Mar. 25-27) during its CAA-opening weekend.
The Blue Hens open the Liberty Bell Classic at Saint Joseph's on Mar. 29, and then head to Towson on Apr. 1-3. The second round of the LBC is scheduled for Apr. 5, with the final slated for Apr. 13.
Delaware heads back out of conference to host St. Peter's on Apr. 8-10, before traveling to Hofstra on Apr. 15-17 and to Delaware State on Apr. 19. The Blue Hens then host Maryland Eastern Shore (Apr. 20), UNCW (Apr. 22-24) and Saint Joseph's (Apr. 26) during a five-game homestand at Hannah Stadium.
UD heads to Charleston (Apr. 29-May 1) for a three-game set, and then travels to Maryland Eastern Shore on May. 4. The Blue Hens host Elon (May 6-8) and Penn (May 11), and following a series at William & Mary on May 13-15, close the regular season at home vs. UMBC (May 17) and defending CAA champion Northeastern (May 19-21).
The CAA Tournament will be held May 25-29 at Elon's University's Latham Park.
