Blue Hens Enjoy Successful Weekend at Cissie Leary Invitational

PHILADELPHIA – The Delaware women's tennis team had a successful weekend, racking up 11 wins in 18 matches at the Cissie Leary Invitational, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. Four Blue Hens participated in the hidden dual format, competing in singles and doubles each day.
In doubles, the team of Julieta Honrubia and Dominika Sujova combined to go a perfect 3-0 with wins over teams from Drexel (6-4) and Cornell (6-2 and 6-4). The duo of Eliza Askarova and Viva Laas also won two matches, easily defeating opponents from Drexel (6-1) and Temple (6-2).
In singles, the Blue Hens competed against Penn on Friday, Cornell on Saturday and Temple on Sunday. Delaware won six of the 12 matches over the three days in singles, including splitting with the host Quakers and winning three against the Big Red.
Sujova and Honrubia both won two of their individual matches, as Sujova won against Penn and Cornell while Honrubia claimed victories against Cornell and Temple.
Askarova and Laas each also took a singles match with Askarova winning on Friday against Penn and Laas triumphing on Saturday over Cornell.
The Blue Hens will be back on the court to close out their fall schedule on Friday, November 5 when the squad travels to Newark, New Jersey for a matchup against NJIT and Southeastern Louisiana.
