Women's Lacrosse: UDance Committee
10/29/2021
The Delaware women's lacrosse team has developed five committees in support of five different organizations the team feels passionate about. They have incredible leaders in the senior class and wanted to create areas for them to utilize their leadership qualities. The women's lacrosse program is heavily involved in giving back and supporting a variety of organizations any way possible. The Blue Hens want to spread awareness and leave a lasting impact on the community. Over the next few months, BlueHens.com will feature every committee and catch up with the organizers.
The next committee that will be highlighted supports UDance and is run by seniors Harley Pilling and Danika Swech. UDance is a philanthropic organization dedicated to fighting childhood cancer. We talked to Pilling and Swech to find out more about UDance and why it is important to them.
WHAT DOES UDance DO?
UDance is a year long event at the University of Delaware, raising money and awareness for pediatric cancer. This organization has evolved from raising thousands to now millions of dollars, for not only groundbreaking research, but also to provide families with food, stable living conditions, and money for hospital bills. In 2009, UDance partnered with the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation, giving athletic teams and other student organizations the ability to create personal relationships with heroes.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO REPRESENT UDance ?
UDance is more than just an event; it's coming together to work as a community in order to provide not only financial relief, but also funding for research so that children with cancer can experience the childhood they deserve.
WHAT IS THE GOAL OF THE UDance COMMITTEE?
Our goal this year is $25,000! We will be accomplishing this goal by participating in events both online and around campus, such as canning, calling for a cure, and other team challenges throughout the academic year!
WHY IS UDance IMPORTANT TO YOU?
Our lacrosse team is lucky enough to have our own B+ hero, Hayden, who battled a rare form of eye cancer called retinoblastoma where cancer cells form and spread in the tissues of the retina. Although she is in remission, she is still left with complications from the treatment. Hayden is an incredible girl who shines so much light and love on our program, and we take pride in knowing that we are helping to fight a battle much bigger than ourselves. She is our why!

UDance is a student-run philanthropic organization at the University of Delaware. Founded in 2007, UDance has been dedicated to fighting childhood cancer ever since. We raise awareness in our community through social media and on and off campus events, while providing immediate and direct financial aid to families affected by childhood cancer.UDanceDelaware.org
