A Trio of Blue Hens Earn All-CAA Volleyball Honors

RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Delaware volleyball team was recognized Wednesday morning by the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) with a trio of 2021 All-CAA selections. Junior outside hitter Lani Mason took home first team accolades while her classmates' setter Ezgi Basaranlar and opposite/outside hitter Lauryn Richardson both landed on the second team.
Mason earns her first-career postseason award after leading the team with 327 kills (3.41 k/per set) and 385.5 points (4.02 pts/per set) while ranking second among the team with 226 digs (2.35 digs/per set) in 96 sets played. The Chester, Va. native posted eight double-doubles (kills/digs) and registered 10 or more kills in 16 matches, including putting together three 20+ kill performances highlighted by a season-best 22 kills against Temple. Mason closed out the regular-season hitting at a season-high rate of .533 against William & Mary to help the Blue Hens secure the fourth-seed in the upcoming 2021 CAA Championships. Among the conference leaders, Mason ranks second kills and points, third in points per set and kills per set (3rd) and fifth in service aces per set (.39) and service aces (37). With her performance on the court, Mason was recognized by the conference four times as the top offensive player of the week.
Basaranlar can add her second-career postseason award to her resume after earning CAA All-Rookie honors two seasons ago. The Istanbul, Turkey native leads the team with 750 assists (8.93 a/per set) and .317 attacking percentage in 84 sets played. Basaranlar recorded three double-doubles (assists/digs) and dished out double-digit assists in 24 of her 25 appearances, including a season-high 52 assists against James Madison. She became the ninth player in program history to surpass the 2,000 career assist mark against UMBC. Basaranlar ranks third in service aces per set (.44), fourth in assists and assists per set and fifth in service aces (37) among the conference leaders. Basaranlar ranks among the nation leaders 32nd in service aces per set.
Hailing from Houston, Texas earning her first-career postseason honors is Richardson as she ranked third among her teammates with 207 kills (2.16 k/per set), 232.5 points (2.42 pts/per set) and 48 blocks (.50 blk/per set) in 96 sets played. Richardson had 10 or more kills in six matches, including nailing down a season-best 14 kills in back-to-back matches at Towson, and had 3+ blocks in seven matches, highlighted by a season-high six block performance against UMES.
