NEWARK, DEL. – University of Delaware Director of Tennis Pablo Montana has announced the 2022 spring schedule for the men's tennis program. The Blue Hens will compete in 22 dual matches as they look to prepare for the 2022 CAA Championships in April.
"We are thrilled with this year's schedule and being able to compete against some of the best teams in the nation," said Montana. "We have added a few new opponents to our schedule that will help us in the end at the CAA Championships."
Delaware will open the spring season with a home match against Youngstown State on January 28. The contest will be played at the Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington. Early on, the Blue Hens will play five matches at the Delcastle Tennis Center as they will also welcome Villanova (Feb. 11), Navy (Feb. 18), Richmond (Feb. 25) and Hofstra (March 11). The Blue & Gold will also play home contests at the Elkton Indoor Tennis Center against Bucknell (Feb. 27) and at the Dupont Country Club against Georgetown (March 13).
The Blue Hens will be challenged in some early road matchups, traveling to play St. John's (Feb. 3), VCU (Feb. 13) and Penn State (Feb. 20) all within the first month of the spring campaign. It does not get any easier as Delaware will also make trips to Monmouth (March 6), Yale (March 12) and Temple (March 17).
The first match on UD's campus will be against St. Francis (Pa.) on March 20 before the Blue Hens depart on a southern swing to South Carolina. They will take on South Carolina State (March 27), the College of Charleston (March 29) and The Citadel (March 31) in a five-day span.
The road trip will close with a match at St. Joseph's (April 6), before Delaware returns to Newark for four-straight home contests. James Madison (April 9) and NJIT (April 10) will open the homestand before the Blue & Gold welcome Morgan State (April 12) and Drexel (April 15) to close out the regular season.
The 2022 CAA Championships will be hosted by Elon University in North Carolina the weekend of April 22-24. The Blue Hens earned the fourth seed at last spring's championships before falling to James Madison in the quarterfinals.
