NEWARK, Del. – Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Chrissi Rawak announced today that Ian Hennessy will not return next season.
"I want to thank Ian for his commitment to the University of Delaware and the men's soccer program," said Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Chrissi Rawak. "Our men's soccer student-athletes have excelled in the classroom and in the community during Ian's tenure at UD. At this time, we felt it was necessary for us to provide new leadership for our program."
Hennessy became the UD men's soccer head coach in January of 2006. Through 16 seasons at the helm of the program, Hennessy's teams made two NCAA Tournament appearances in 2011 and 2016 when they won the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament championship, in addition to an at-large NCAA Tournament berth in 2013. The Blue Hens also won the 2014 CAA regular season title. During Hennessy's time with the Blue Hens, he coached numerous All-CAA, All-Region and All-American players.
A national search will begin immediately.
