Delaware Baseball Announces 2022 Captains

NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware baseball head coach Jim Sherman has announced that Mike Biasiello, Jordan Hutchins, Joey Loynd and Chris Ludman have been named team captains for the 2022 season.
Biasiello made 11 appearances on the mound last spring and tied for the team lead with three wins. He was third on the squad with 37 strikeouts, and allowed just one run while striking out 10 batters in 7.1 innings against Hofstra. He also fired 4.2 scoreless frames vs. Towson, and gave up only one run in four innings during the season finale against Northeastern.
Hutchins appeared in all 34 games a year ago, making 25 starts at second base and eight in centerfield. He batted .238 with 31 hits, 17 runs scored and 20 RBI, and posted three-hit games against La Salle, Towson and Hofstra.
Loynd started every game in 2021, all but one at third base, ranking second on the Blue Hens with a .294 batting average and 37 hits while leading the squad with 13 doubles. He also recorded three-hit games vs. La Salle, Hofstra and Towson, and belted home runs in consecutive games against the Pride.
Ludman went 3-5 with a 4.62 ERA during 11 starts on the mound, pitching a team-high 78 innings and ranking second on the squad with 64 strikeouts. Ludman, who is serving as team captain for the second straight year, allowed just three hits in eight innings against Towson and fired a six-hit shutout at Penn.
Delaware begins its 2022 campaign at the Stetson Tournament on Feb. 18-20, and hosts Rider on Mar. 4-6 during its home-opening weekend.
