ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Blue Hens men's tennis team fell to Navy, 5-2, Saturday afternoon during its first road match of the season.
"That was a heartbreaker today, but I'm proud of our guys for the heart and fight they showed throughout the match," said head coach Pablo Montana. "Navy came out strong in doubles and they were a little more aggressive than us from the beginning. We immediately bounced back and tied up the score by winning No. 4 singles and the momentum seemed to be going our way. It was a seesaw battle for the entire match and Navy edged us out in the end. Congrats to Coach Garner and his Navy team as they played a little better than us today. Congrats to Julian and Pierce for having nice singles wins today. We will rest tomorrow and get back on the practice courts on Monday as we prepare for Monmouth on Friday."
Graduate student Julian Chousa defeated his Navy opponent in No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-2. Senior Pierce Gilheany also collected a victory by defeating Jake Fishkin in No. 3 singles, 6-4, 6-2.
Delaware will take Monmouth next Friday, March 5 at 12 noon at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
