Blue Hens Defeat Monmouth, 6-1
3/5/2021 7:06:00 PM | Men's Tennis
WILMINGTON, Del. – The Blue Hens men's tennis team defeated Monmouth Friday afternoon in a thrilling 6-1 showdown.
The Blue Hens started off the day winning the doubles point after a nail biting tiebreaker on court three between Liam Hedlund/Luis Molina and Monmouth's Charlie Penman/Victor Castro. Pierce Gilheany and Julian Chousa also won their doubles match against Lucca Silva and Gabriel Busato on court two.
The Blue Hens also collected 5 wins during singles play with Wilkinson, Dodens, Gilheany, Chousa, and Valdoleiros all defeating their Monmouth opponents.
"This was a good win for the program today and our guys were ready from the start," says head coach Pablo Montana. "The doubles point came down to the wire and we were able to pull it out in the end. In singles, we came out with confidence and continued to battle, as this was a hard fought victory. Both teams got better today, Coach Leicht does a great job with his guys and it's no surprise his team has won their conference the past few years. We will rest tomorrow and start preparing for our next match with Richmond and VCU."
Today's match closes out Delaware's home competitions for the season. The Blue Hens will be back in action on March 20th with a doubleheader against the Richmond Spiders and VCU Rams.
