ELON, N.C. – Delaware fell to Drexel, 63-52, in the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Basketball Championship Final Saturday evening inside the Schar Center.
The Dragons (14-8) were led by the tournament's Most Outstanding Player, Keishana Washington, who scored a game-high 30 points. Junior point guard Paris McBride led the Blue Hens with 11 points, while classmate Jasmine Dickey added 10.
Dickey and redshirt junior forward Ty Battle were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Delaware outrebounded Drexel 44-25, but Drexel's hot shooting proved to be the difference. The Dragons knocked down 51.0% (26-51) of their field goals, while the Blue Hens made just 29.5% (18-61) of their attempts from the field.
The teams were even at 17-17 after a high-octane first quarter, but Delaware closed the second quarter on a 13-0 run, highlighted by a Jewel Smalls transition trey that put the Blue Hens in the lead. Drexel outscored Delaware 20-5 in the third quarter to take back the lead for good.
The 2020-21 season was a significant one for the Blue Hens, with the most wins and the first CAA Regular Season Championship since 2012-13.
The Blue Hens await the NCAA DI women's college basketball tournament selection show on Monday, March 15 at 7 p.m. on ESPN for their postseason fate.
