PHILADELPHIA – Drexel scored four second half goals to defeat Delaware, 4-1, in Colonial Athletic Association men's soccer action Saturday night at Vidas Field.
The Dragons advance to next week's conference tournament while the Blue Hens, who lost for the first time this spring, end their season with a 2-1-2 record.
Drexel got on the board first with a controversial goal in the 53rd minute. Delaware goalkeeper Renan Thomazo made a point blank save following a Dragons cross into the box, but was then run into by the Dragons forward. With Thomazo down, Drexel's Patrick Murphy lofted a shot from 18 yards out that was headed into the open net by Chris Donovan.
Just 38 seconds later Thomazo made a terrific save on a shot by Joey Martini, but the rebound was headed home by Donovan to make it a 2-0 game.
The Blue Hens got on the board in the 61st minute when Forster Ajago collected a loose ball and fired a low shot from 12 yards out into the bottom right corner of the cage to cut the Drexel lead in half.
However the Dragons' Laolu Daranijo answered with a pair of goals in the 75th and 83rd minutes to seal the win for Drexel.
The Dragons held an 18-9 shot advantage, while Thomazo made eight saves in the Blue Hen goal.
