NEWARK, Del. – Five different Blue Hens scored against Drexel to put the Blue Hens back in the win column during Friday's game.
"Great performance by the Blue Hens today! Looking back, our young players group needed the games versus William & Mary and James Madison in order to create their new team identity without our seniors around," said head coach Rolf van de Kerkhof. "They developed well and improved in playing together with new players and in new formations. They deserve a big compliment on how they have transitioned in just ten days with the convincing performance displayed versus Drexel today."
The Blue Hens started off strong with an unassisted goal off a rebound from Sarah Iannuzzi with just three seconds remaining in the first quarter.
Ashley Iannuzzi joined her sister in the scoring column after scoring off a rebound in the 36th minute.
Julia Duffuis followed eight minutes later with a goal off a penalty corner, assisted by Berber Bakermans and Ashlyn Carr.
Just two minutes later, Ashlyn Carr scored a goal of her own on a penalty stroke.
Wrapping up the scoring frenzy of the day, Grace Miller scored, unassisted, off a rebound in the 56th minute.
On the defensive side, goalkeeper Lizzie Gaebel had six saves on the day.
"The win today brings us another step closer to securing a spot in the CAA Tournament at the University of Delaware next week and the return of our seniors as part of our game day rotation," continued van de Kerkhof. "We are looking forward to preparing for Hofstra this Sunday and having Emily (Kresho), Ellie (Schepens) and Femke (Strien) back in our team setting next week. I am proud of my team for staying focused on the process and embracing the privilege, or some may say the challenge, they faced."
The Blue Hens return to Rullo Stadium on Sunday, April 18th in their final regular season game of the year against CAA opponent Hofstra.
