RICHMOND, Va. – After the final weekend of the regular season, the University of Delaware football program officially earned a CAA weekly award after all five games as the conference announced Monday that redshirt junior Nolan Henderson and redshirt senior Nijuel Hill are part of this week's honorees.
Â
Henderson was named the Offensive Player of the Week after throwing for a career-high 270 yards in the Blue Hens' 27-20 Battle of the Blue victory over No. 10 Villanova. He was an efficient 20-of-24 passing with two touchdowns.
Â
The Smyrna, Delaware native connected on three long strikes, including a 38-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Jourdan Townsend just before the half to help the Blue Hens regain momentum. Henderson was also in synch with junior Thyrick Pitts who went over the century mark in the game and over 1,000 career receiving yards.
Â
Hill took home Defensive Player of the Week honors and clinched the win with an interception on Villanova's final drive. The Baltimore native made four stops along the way, including three solo tackles while playing a big role in the pass game with two breakups to go with the pick.
Â
It took until the game's final minute, but Hill was a crucial part in keeping Delaware's streak alive of forcing at least one turnover in each game this season and extend the turnover margin to plus-10.
Â
The win over Villanova helped Delaware clinch the CAA Championship and a berth in the FCS Playoffs, beginning Saturday when the Blue Hens host Sacred Heart at Delaware Stadium at 7 p.m. Ticket information can be found here.
