NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware football program posted two student-athletes on the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team in redshirt senior Dejoun Lee and redshirt junior Thyrick Pitts.
Â
The Blue Hens are part of District Two which includes the states of Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
Â
Lee holds a graduate GPA of 3.72, studying International Business at the University of Delaware. He has already graduated with a degree in sport management and was selected as the 2020-21 CAA Offensive Player of the Year and a finalist for the Walter Payton Award.
Â
The Springfield, Virginia native was selected to the First Team All-CAA as a running back and kick returner and earned both Stats Perform and Associated Press Second-Team All-American selections.
Â
Pitts is a 4.0 graduate student, studying Business Administration at the University of Delaware. He graduated with an undergraduate degree in 2020 and was the Blue Hens' leading receiver in 2020-21 with 29 grabs for 452 yards and three touchdowns.
Â
Pitts earned All-CAA First-Team honors and became the 30th player in program history to eclipse the 1,000 career receiving yards mark. The Manassas, Virginia native has at least one reception in 20-staight games in Blue and Gold.
Â
The duo becomes Delaware's first selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team since Collin Wallish in 2018 and the first time the Blue Hens have placed multiple student-athletes on the team since 2016.
Â
The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Football Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes football honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Â
Delaware's CAA Title defense begins Sept. 2 at Maine before the home-opener at Delaware Stadium Sept. 11 against Saint Francis. Those interested in season tickets can explore options and plans here.
