June 5, 2021 – Three University of Delaware Athletics former and current student-athletes were honored by the alumni association at the 2021 UDAA Awards Celebration.
In recognition of the many notable achievements of its alumni, the UD Alumni Association, in partnership with the University, established the Alumni Wall of Fame in 1984. The Alumni Wall of Fame recognizes outstanding professional and public service achievements by UD graduates.
Quinetta Roberson, a 1992 graduate of the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics and former track & field student-athlete, is the John A. Hannah Distinguished Professor of Management and Psychology at Michigan State University. With more than 20 years of global experience in teaching courses, facilitating workshops and advising organizations on diversity, equity and inclusion, Roberson has spread her knowledge worldwide, having been a visiting scholar at universities on six continents.
At UD, Roberson delivered a TEDxUniversityofDelaware talk on "The Other Side of Bias" in 2020, a year in which the impact of biases were brought to the forefront in our nation through the events and protests surrounding the murder of George Floyd and many others.
Roberson has published over 40 journal articles and book chapters and edited the Oxford Handbook of Diversity and Work. Her research and consulting work focus on developing organizational capability and enhancing effectiveness through diversity, equity and inclusion, and is informed by her work experiences, having worked as a financial analyst and small business consultant prior to obtaining her doctorate in organizational behavior from the University of Maryland.
Since graduating from UD in 1992, Roberson has remained active with the Lerner College and the Black Alumni Organization, and regularly gives of her time, talent and treasure. She's a frequent guest speaker and presenter at events, and together with alumnus and former University Trustee Tony Allen, who graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences in 1993 and earned a doctorate in 2001, made a $100,000 commitment to establish the Fund for Urban Education.
The Outstanding Alumni Awards are presented annually to alumni in recognition of their exemplary work on behalf of the University of Delaware and/or the UDAA.
Former UD men's basketball student-athlete Christopher J. Metkiff, a 2020 honoree, was honored with the 2021 class. A graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences in 2006, Metkiff is the senior vice president at MassMutual Greater Philadelphia, and exemplifies what it means to be a true Blue Hen.
Originally from Merrick, N.Y., Metkiff was a member of the men's basketball team at UD and continues to invest in and mentor UD students, including student-athletes. Many other UD students and former student-athletes work at his firm.
Metkiff serves on the CFP Advisory Board for the Lerner College of Business, hosts networking and client-based events at UD football games and is a member of the Delaware Diamonds Society for his generous financial support to both the Lerner College of Business and Economics and the Athletics Department.
Metkiff continues to be a season ticket holder for men's basketball and regularly attends UD football games and tailgates, in addition to other UD events such as Ag Day and fundraising events.
"Chris is a constant fixture at UD career events and has dedicated himself to influencing the lives of our students so that they are in the best position possible when they enter the workforce," - Chrissi Rawak, Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Services.
The Emalea Pusey Warner Award recognizes seniors who demonstrate leadership, academic success and community service. Students must also have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better at the end of the first semester of senior year.
The description above correctly describes one of Delaware Athletics most outstanding seniors, Jessica Harding of the women's cross country and track & field teams. The all-conference performer and
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee member holds top 10 times in the UD track & field record book.
A native of Metuchen, N.J., Harding, switched her major from biology to the Energy and Environmental Policy 4+1 degree in the Biden School of Public Policy and Administration during her first year at UD.
Harding excelled in the classroom as she served as a graduate research intern for The Biden Institute and as an environmental sustainability intern in Washington, D.C., for She Grows It, a firm for emerging companies in urban agriculture, research and development and sustainability industries.
Assisting as an orientation leader, Harding, a hardworking student-athlete on the track and in the classroom graduated with an Honors Degree in May and will complete her master's degree next year.
"Athletics is where I have really learned to thrive as a leader. I joined the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, became one of our team's UDance representatives, and joined the inaugural member class of HenMinded, a group aimed at reducing mental health stigma in athletics." – Jessica Harding
Note: The names of the award recipients will be engraved on the stone walls of the Alumni Circle on UD's campus, where we hope to gather during Homecoming Weekend this fall for a celebratory toast.
