Blue Hens Announce 2021 Field Hockey Slate

NEWARK, Del. - The Delaware field hockey team released its 2021 schedule that features a balanced home and away slate, including five games versus opponents with a Top 25 RPI.
"Delaware field hockey is excited to gear up for a fall season. Our game schedule will be a challenging one with many NCAA tournament-caliber programs, but that is how we like it best," said Head Coach Rolf van de Kerkhof. "Our non-conference schedule should prepare us well to compete for the CAA Regular Season Title, to be the best we need to be to compete for the CAA Tournament Championship and this year make a deeper run into the NCAA Tournament.
"Our team is fortunate to have many returning players as we only graduated two from this past spring season. The experience and overall growth our returning players had in the spring, coupled with the development of our grey-shirts and the interaction with our incoming freshmen, presents great opportunities for UDFH this fall. I am excited to welcome the players to campus in August and for us to kick off our 2021 season journey together."
The Blue Hens host Lafayette in a scrimmage on Aug.19, before kicking off the 2021 campaign with a pair of road matches at Old Dominion (Aug. 27) and Virginia (Aug. 29).
Delaware welcomes a three-game home stretch with American (Sept. 3), Monmouth (Sept. 5), and Harvard (Sept. 10), all visiting Rullo Stadium. Other home non-conference matches include Princeton (Sept. 17) and Rutgers (Sept. 19).
The Blue Hens will play at Penn State (Sept. 12), Temple (Sept. 17), and St. Joe's (Oct. 1). Delaware plays two late non-conference games in October. UD hosts Penn on the 24th for its UDFH Alumni Day & Game. The final non-conference game for the Blue Hens will be at 2020 NCAA Tournament participant UConn on the 31st.
Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play begins on Oct. 3 versus Towson. The Blue Hens will also host James Madison and William & Mary. CAA road matches for UD will be Hofstra, Northeastern, and Drexel.
The Blue Hens will host the CAA Championship for the sixth consecutive year. The tournament will take place on Nov. 5 and 7 in Newark.
The 2021 NCAA Tournament opens on Nov. 12 with first and second-round games at campus sites. The NCAA semifinals and championship will be conducted on Nov. 19 and 21 in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Delaware concluded its spring campaign with a record of 6-4. The Blue Hens won the CAA Tournament championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time in school history.
