NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware men's soccer team will play seven home games including a visit from national power Maryland as the Blue Hens announced their 2021 schedule on Wednesday.
Delaware, led by 16th-year head coach Ian Hennessy, opens the campaign with a pair of road games as the Blue Hens head to Rutgers on Aug. 26 and to Seton Hall on Aug. 30.
UD plays its home opener at Stuart & Suzanne Grant Stadium on Sept. 7 against Monmouth, before opening Colonial Athletic Association play at Elon on Sept. 11.
Following a road contest at American on Sept. 14, the Blue Hens play their first home league match against defending CAA champion James Madison on Sept. 18.
After trips to UNCW on Sept. 25 and UMBC on Sept. 28, Delaware returns home to host Hofstra on Oct. 2. The Blue Hens then head to Northeastern on Oct. 9 before hosting Maryland, the 2018 National Champions, for a highly-anticipated game on Oct. 12.
Delaware defeated 20-ranked Maryland, 2-1, during the 2015 season, before the top-ranked Terps edged the Blue Hens, 3-2 in overtime, the following year. This season marks the Terps' first visit to Newark since 1941.
The Maryland match is the first of a four-game homestand for the Blue Hens, who also welcome Charleston (Oct. 16), William & Mary (Oct. 24) and Old Dominion (Oct. 27) to Grant Stadium. The regular season concludes at rival Drexel on Nov. 6.
