Blue Hens On a Roll in Fall Camp

NEWARK, Del. – The Delaware football program opened up fall camp on Aug. 4, and with four practices under their belt, they look like a well-oiled machine.
"We're off to a good start. We finished practice No. 4 today," said head coach Danny Rocco. "Today was definitely our best day. We have a lot of guys who know what it's supposed to look and sound like out here. A lot of guys have been to battle and have won. That's the neat thing. Two years ago, we had a lot of battle-tested guys, but we didn't have a lot of positive experiences. This past season those guys turned that experience into performance, and we were able to go out there and put together a really strong season. Now they're all back and hungry to be able to build on our success from last year."
The Blue Hens return all but one starter from a year ago, which is a rarity and a blessing. The defending Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Champions have an upperclassmen leadership and a wealth of experienced players. Delaware has been able to rely on that familiarity during fall camp to make strides and progress smoothly.
Delaware placed a league-high eight players on the All-CAA Preseason Team. The Blue Hens were voted to finish second in the CAA after a semifinal FCS Playoff run. Delaware takes the field on Sept. 2 with a 7 p.m. scheduled kickoff at Maine to open the season.
"We've made some good tweaks and adjustments to what we're doing," Rocco added. "We are including the new players and freshmen so we can see what they're capable of doing and find out who may be in a position to contribute for us this season."
There are 26 days until kickoff and plenty of fall camp practices ahead.
