Blue Hens Defeat Mary Washington on First Day of Joe Hunt Invitational

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The University of Delaware men's tennis team defeated Mary Washington on Friday as the Blue Hens opened their 2021 fall season at Navy's Joe Hunt Invitational.

Delaware won three of four doubles matches against the Eagles, with duos of James Wilkinson and Pierce Gilheany (6-2), Liam Hedlund and Nicholas Gore (6-2), and Guilherme Valdoleiros and Alexandre Gluck (6-1) picking up victories.

Wilkinson and Gilheany also blanked Saint Joseph's, 6-0, while Hedlund and Gore edged the Hawks, 6-4. Additionally, Valdoleiros and Gluck shut out Navy, 6-0.

The Blue Hens also won all eight singles matches against Mary Washington: Wilkinson (6-1, 6-2), Pascal Wagemaker (6-3, 4-6, 6-2), Luis Molina (7-5, 6-4), Valdoleiros (6-0, 6-0), Gilheany (7-5, 6-2), Hedlund (7-6, 6-2), Gluck (6-1, 6-2), and Gore (6-3, 6-2).
