The University of Delaware women's golf team opens its 2021 fall season this weekend as the Blue Hens compete in the Nittany Lion Invitational. UD will play two rounds on Saturday and one Sunday on PSU's White Course.
"Our women's team is still young and talented!" said head coach Patty Post. "Our coaching staff is excited with what we have seen thus far. They came to school ready to play as noticed by their qualifying scores. We will be led by our returners Oihana, Lexi and Christina. We are excited to get on the road this weekend and have a full season this year!"
Oihana Etxezarreta enjoyed an outstanding freshman season in the spring, when she was a second team All-CAA pick and was the Blue Hens' top finisher in five of six tournaments. She averaged 74.56 shots per round, sixth lowest in program history, and became the first freshman medalist by winning the Kingsmill Intercollegiate.
Fellow sophomore Christina Carroll ranked second on the team with a 76.06 average round this spring, and is coming off an outstanding summer when she competed in the U.S. Women's Amateur and Delaware Open.
Junior Lexi Dart also participated in all six tournaments during the spring, ranking third on the squad with a 76.33 stroke average. Liz Coffren (78.75), Anna Kittelson (79.72) and Lene Sperling (82.56) are also back for Delaware.
Additionally, freshmen Lilia Henkel and Alisa Khokhlova will look to make an immediate impact for the Blue Hens.
Following the Nittany Lion Invitational, UD will also compete in the Golfweek Program Challenge on Sept. 12-14, the Golfweek Conference Challenge on Sept. 27-29, the Lady Blue Hen Invitational on Oct. 16-17, and the Mercer Invitational on Nov. 8-9.
