Women’s Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision to Liberty

NEWARK, Del. – The Delaware women's soccer team hosted Liberty on Sunday afternoon at Stuart and Suzanne Grant Stadium. The Blue Hens fell to the visiting Flames, 2-0.
"I feel like this is the third time we've played an opponent and had been a bit better," said head coach Mike Barroqueiro. "We created opportunities today, but we couldn't put the ball in the back of the net."
The first 15 minutes of action was comparable to a back and forth chess match with neither team really getting close to the goal. The speed picked up from there and both Delaware and Liberty began to swing the ball down the field.
Liberty (2-3) struck first, as it capitalized on a trio of corner kicks to have one work in its favor when Maddy Oliver tapped one in off a corner from Kasey Jamieson in the 19th minute.
The Flames added a second goal, when Oliver received a cross from teammate Meredith King and booted the ball in from two feet out to extend Liberty's lead to 2-0 in the 80th minute.
Liberty recorded six shots and led the Blue Hens in corner kicks, 7-3.
Delaware registered 10 shots on the day with three on goal. Lauren Krinsky made three saves for the Blue Hens, who drop to 2-4 on the season.
"We have a great group of kids here. We're young and getting caught on some things, but we're not a bad team," Barroqueiro stated. "That's the important thing that the players have to take away from it all.
We're really good and once we sort out a few kinks, we're going to be okay."
The Blue Hens host St. John's on Thursday night at 7 p.m. for National Teddy Bear Day. Delaware will then travel to Baltimore to play Loyola University of Maryland on Sunday at 2 p.m.
