Donnellan Named Men's Soccer CAA Rookie Of The Week For Third Time

NEWARK, Del. - Delaware's men's soccer freshman Sam Donnellan was named CAA Co-Rookie of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday, Oct. 17, 2022. Donnellan was named alongside William & Mary's Lucas Caldas and has received the honor three times this season.
Donnellan recorded his second game of multiple goals this season in the Blue Hens' conference victory against Stony Brook, their first of the season. Donnellan broke a 1-1 tie in the 48th minute, then gave Delaware an insurance goal in the 55th minute to seal the victory. Donnellan's two games of at least two goals this season tied for the most by a CAA freshman this season, and his seven total goals are tied for second most in the CAA and tied for the most by a CAA freshman. His seven goals this season are the most by a Delaware freshman since Fede Prieto also had seven in 2016, and he is one of six freshmen this season in Division I with at least seven goals. Donnellan is also the fastest Delaware player to score seven career goals, reaching it in his 13th career game, since former All-American Guillermo Delgado reached the mark in his first five career games in 2013. Donnellan became the first Delaware freshman with multiple games of at least two goals since Delgado in 2013 as well, who did it on three occasions. He is now the first Delaware player to be named CAA Rookie of the Week three times in a season since Roberto Giménez in 2011.
