Farmville, Va. – Just one more sleep until the University of Delaware women's basketball program will tip off the 2022-23 campaign. The Blue Hens will open its 52nd season on the road in Farmville, Va. against Longwood Monday evening (Nov. 7) inside Willett Hall. Opening tip is slated for a 7 p.m.

What You Need to Know:
- This will be the first time Delaware and Longwood will be meeting in program history. It will be a battle of first-year head coaches Sarah Jenkins and Erika Lang-Montgomery as both coaches are looking for their first win at the helm of their respective programs.
- Delaware hoisted up its third Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) conference championship after dethroning Drexel on Mar. 13, 2022. The Blue Hens earned the right to go dancing in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2013 and the fifth time in in program history.
- After serving as an assistant coach at Penn State last season, Jenkins, a former associate head coach at Delaware, was named the fifth women's basketball head coach in the program's illustrious history on April. 3, 2022.
- The Blue Hens return six members from the 2022 CAA championship team and welcomes seven newcomers to Newark, five of which are transfers. Highlighting this year's roster are junior guard Tara Cousins, fifth-year guard Jewel Smalls and graduate student transfer guard Kharis Idom from UMass Lowell. Jenkins' squad also includes four members that have 3+ years of playing experience at the Division I level.
- Delaware was projected to finish sixth (92 votes) according to the CAA preseason coaches' poll. 2022 CAA tournament finalist Drexel was selected as the favorite to hoist the conference championship, garnering 142 votes (10 first place votes), while Charleston (125 votes, one first place vote) and new conference member Stony Brook rounded out the top three with 108 votes.
- The Blue Hens will have four captains for the 2022-23 season; Cousins, Idom, Smalls and Klarke Sconiers.
- Longwood also made history a year ago after making a historic run in the NCAA Tournament after claiming the Big South title. The Lancers will be led by senior guard Anne-Hamilton LeRoy. LeRoy posts career averages of 9.1 points, 1.2 assists and 2.3 rebounds per game and was named to the Preseason Big South All-Conference Second team ahead of this season.
- Over the last 10 seasons, the Blue Hens hold a 6-4 record in their season-opening games.
- Delaware was one of five CAA schools that were recognized on Nov. 2 on the College Insider Preseason Mid-Major Top 25 poll. The Blue Hens received 39 votes.
