Women's Basketball Game Preview: Duquesne

NEWARK, Del. – The University of Delaware women's basketball team opens its December slate in the First State and will welcome Duquesne for its third meeting in program history Sunday, Dec. 4. The Blue Hens will battle the Dukes at 2 p.m. inside Bob Carpenter Center.

What You Need to Know:
- This will be the third time Delaware and Duquesne will be meeting in program history, with the series being tied at one game apiece. This will also be the first time that the Blue Hens will welcome the Dukes inside the friendly confines of Bob Carpenter Center.
- The last time the Blue Hens and the Dukes met was during the 2012-13 season on Dec. 30, 2012. As part of the Dartmouth Blue Sky Classic, Delaware claimed the 60-45 victory in Hanover, N.H.
- The last time Delaware hit the hardwood was Wednesday evening (Nov. 30) when they returned back to Newark with all of its B1G momentum. The Blue Hens welcome in-state foe Delaware State for a Route 1 Rivalry, sponsored by DE529, and captured the 74-52 victory over the Hornets to hoist up the trophy and have bragging rights.
- The statline vs. Delaware State: Jewel Smalls led the way with 18 points (6-12 3FG) to go with four rebounds, three assists and two steals. The fifth-year senior guard has made at least three three-pointers in five of her seven games played this season and has 16 career games with three-or-more triples made. Makayla Pippin followed with 15 points (6-9 FG, 3-4 FT) and 11 rebounds to post her second double-double on the season. Klarke Sconiers chipped in 12 points (5-9 FG, 2-2 FT), six rebounds and two blocks while Nakiyah Mays-Prince poured in 10 points and tied her career-high in assists with five, last done against Longwood as well, and four steals off the bench.
- The last time Duquesne saw action was Thursday evening (Dec. 1) for a home showdown against Tusla. The Dukes dropped its first home game of the season with a 65-59 decision to the Golden Hurricane and were paced by Ayanna Towsend's career-high 21 points.
- Delaware was one of four CAA schools that were recognized on Nov. 29 on the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 poll and received votes.
- Among the national leaders as of Dec. 1, Delaware, as a unit, ranks 30th in field goal percentage defense (34.4)
