NEWARK, Del. – University of Delaware men's tennis graduate student Pascal Wagemaker and senior James Wilkinson have been named the CAA Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week, as announced by the league office on Wednesday. The award recognizes the duo's performance last week at St. John's.
Wagemaker and Wilkinson knocked off the nation's 56th-ranked doubles team, Axel Vila Antuna and Ignacio Garcia of St. John's, 7-6 (4) in Delaware's narrow 4-3 setback to the Red Storm. The victory by the Blue Hens' top duo helped them clinch the doubles point in the match. With the victory, Wagemaker and Wilkinson moved to 2-0 as a doubles team this season.
This is Wagemaker's first career weekly honor from the CAA. The Zuid-Scharwoude, Netherlands native is a combined 4-0 between singles and doubles in Delaware's two dual matches this season. For Wilkinson, it is his fourth career CAA weekly award, and second in as many weeks after he was named the CAA Men's Tennis Player of the Week following UD's spring opening victory over Youngstown State.
The Delaware men return home on Friday 11 when the squad hosts Villanova at the Delcastle Tennis Center in Wilmington. The match is slated to start at 12 p.m. The Blue Hens will travel to VCU on Sunday for an 11 a.m. match.
